Expert: Impact from digitalization of farmers seen at 4.8 tln rbl

MOSCOW, Jun 23 (PRIME) -- Economic impact from Russian farms transition to a business model based on the Internet of Things and digitalization may exceed 4.8 trillion rubles in annual terms in 10 years, or 5.6% of the gross domestic product growth from 2016, researcher J’son & Partners Consulting said in a statement seen by PRIME on Friday.

A possible increase in consumption of information technologies in the country may amount to 22% thanks only to digitalization of agriculture.

“The economic effect is calculated on condition that 30% of Russian agricultural producers or 100% of big farms and 25% of small farms, which in total will account for 95% of the country’s agricultural output, use such processes,” Alexander Gerasimov, director of IT and cloud services department, told PRIME.

“Such coverage could be reached within 10 years, if there are state support programs for agricultural digitalization. Large vertically integrated holdings, agro-industrial complexes, could act as digitalization locomotives, since they are already accumulating a great deal of food added value creation and could concentrate the maximum advantages from digitalization.”

Large holdings also have sufficient financial resources to launch the first digital projects. They could be later joined by small farms, the expert said.
